Challenge

Our clients approached us to build fabulous place for friends and family to stay when they visit – and a source of great revenue for short-term rental. With great eyes for design and style, this compact, efficient, and stylish Guest Suite shows off.

Solution

This site is narrow, and it’s a modern home designed and built for a narrow lot. Fortunately there is an alley behind the property so we had some room to push the building back. A little known zoning opportunity: alleys have a zero setback, so if you have an alley property let us know! We designed this Guest Suite in the side setback with as much light and detail as possible. Putting the building as close as possible to the rear and side property boundaries left as much space as available for outdoor seating and landscaping.

Results

A gorgeous, efficient, compact, and intimate indoor/outdoor environment that is fun for guests and an amenity for the homeowners. There is access for guests directly off the back alley and a clear connection to the main house for family and friends. The interior of the main space has a fantastic murphy bed and couch that makes the space work in multiple configurations. The kitchenet and bar seating creates a place to make and enjoy your coffee or takeout. The large skylight and oversized french doors make sure this space is full of light all year long. A high end tile shower experience will keep this space 5 stars in perpetuity and the landscaping and exterior lighting make this one a star in our portfolio.
